Hi, My name is Amy. I am a classical musician and the founder of Young Artists Music Academy. Here is the story of my school.

Growing up in Auckland, I knew early on that I want to be a musician. I was fortunate to have excellent teachers that showed me the joy of learning an instrument. I practiced piano, later picking up the clarinet, and eventually decided there's nothing else I wanted to do more than be a professional musician. My teachers showed me the way, and I fell in love with music.

At 15, I was accepted into Interlochen Arts Academy, a distinguished American boarding high school specializing in music. I jumped at the opportunity and went off to chase my American dream. During my years in the United States, I finished 3 degrees in music, performed in Carnegie Hall, started a music ensemble, and had the privilege of making music alongside incredible musicians. I also discovered my passion for music education.

At first, I taught one-on-one piano and classical lessons, eventually graduating to full classroom teaching on children's musicianship, music history, and theory. I find the hard work of being a music teacher fulfilling and sought out university pedagogy classes to further my skills. For the past 10 years as an educator, I have accumulated experience working with children and very young children in summer camps, pre-college music programs, and distinguished music institutions around New York City. My students have been awarded admissions to prestigious institutions such as the LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Interlochen Arts Camp, Auckland Philharmonia Summer School, and music scholarships to private schools.

Since moving back to Auckland due to the pandemic, I knew the perfect time to fulfill my lifelong dream of opening my own music school. I wouldn't be where I am today without the generosity of my teachers and mentors. To pay it forward, I strive to use my knowledge and connections to help young kiwi musicians to achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
